The BBC turned to stYpe’s Follower system to power its UEFA EURO 2024 outdoor studio in Berlin. The challenge was to deliver a visually dynamic broadcast that combined live presenters with AR graphics, despite the unpredictable outdoor conditions.
The Challenge
Outdoor broadcasts are notoriously difficult for tracking systems, as sunlight and reflections often interfere with beacons and sensors. The BBC needed a solution that could deliver accurate talent and prop tracking even under bright sunlight. All that with minimal setup time.

The Solution: Follower Motion Capture
Using Follower, the BBC attached ultra-light LED beacons to talent and props. Infrared sensors captured their movements in real time, enabling presenters to interact naturally with AR graphics. For example, statistics appeared directly next to players, and props transformed into virtual elements on screen.
Proven Results
The system delivered flawless tracking across multiple live matches and studio segments. As a result, the BBC was able to offer audiences a visually rich broadcast that felt natural and dynamic.
Follower has since become a trusted tool for sports broadcasters worldwide, powering interactive graphics for FOX NFL Sunday, CBS, and Televisa.
